Porto Romano Restaurant @ The Intermark
About This Spot
Stepping into Porto Romano Restaurant at The Intermark feels like entering a quietly refined corner of Italy tucked within the bustling heart of Kuala Lumpur. The space embraces you with a cozy, intimate vibe where soft lighting and thoughtful decor—featuring vintage Italian movie posters and travel posters—invite a relaxed pace amidst the city’s energy. It’s not the loud or flashy sort of place, but rather one where the atmosphere encourages lingering conversations over well-crafted meals.
Here, the experience is gently shaped by a sense of familiarity, like a neighborhood spot you return to for a reliable taste and comforting company. The menu unfolds like a warm, heartfelt invitation to savor Italian culinary traditions without pretense. Whether sharing a plate of perfectly al dente pasta with friends or enjoying a quietly indulgent dinner alone, dishes carry a balance of freshness and care that honors classic flavors. The smells of garlic bread toasts or the rich aroma of simmering seafood beckon subtly, never overwhelming.
The flow of the meal here feels unhurried, encouraging guests to appreciate subtle nuances—whether it’s a silken mushroom soup or a tender lamb shank slowly melting on the plate. The seafood selections carry a freshness that pairs well with a casual sip from the thoughtfully curated wine list, enhancing the intimate dining mood. There’s a homey, lived-in quality reflective of well-loved Italian recipes passed down and adapted for the local palate.
The interior’s warm embrace and the softly resonant hum of quiet conversation allow Porto Romano to feel like a private little retreat amid The Intermark shopping mall’s liveliness. Though the space can feel a bit snug at times, it only adds to the charm of a place where you are embraced as part of a shared meal experience rather than served in a bustling, impersonal environment.
In all, Porto Romano delivers a space for genuine enjoyment and subtle celebration of Italian fare—a spot to quietly mark moments whether that’s a midday pause during a shopping trip or a relaxed evening meal with familiar faces. It quietly invites you to slow down, savor, and soak in the pleasure of good company paired with thoughtfully prepared food.

Stayed at the doubletree KL by Hilton and manage to chance upon this lovely place. As we had access to high tea and evening canapés, we decided to have a light lunch of seafood. Porta Romano serve baked whole barramundi which was really excellent. We also order one soup which they graciously serve in two bowls. Overall , food was excellent and pricing very reasonable. Highly recommend to try their seafood , which was very fresh and served with class

Just had a simple lunch at this restaurant and ordered an appetizer, Aglio Olio with duck breast and Tiramisu. Both are delicious.

The place had a cozy ambiance that gave off a luxurious dining vibe, which I really appreciated. However, the service fell short—I had to ask twice just to get a glass of water, which was a bit disappointing. As for the food, the spaghetti Bolognese was excellent. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the flavors were spot on. On the other hand, the carbonara was a letdown. It tasted more like a cream-based dish rather than an authentic Italian carbonara, and it was overly creamy—almost like milk pasta, which was unexpected from an Italian restaurant. The highlight of the meal was definitely the chili prawns. They were flavorful, delicious, and something I’d happily order again with every meal.

A tad overpriced but I still enjoyed my meal and they offered good service. Inside is a little cramped but the decor is great with Italian movie posters, retro travel advertisements and more. I really liked the atmosphere. We came in for a snack while exploring the Intermark mall which itself has a lot of dining options. If you want some Italian, I think Porto Romano can serve you well.

A well established Italian restaurant at the Intermark with a neighbourhood feel about it. Food is reasonably priced and excellent value. Pizza was thin-crust, crispy and flavourful. We also had lamb cutlets, chicken thigh Spanish style, chicken supreme, beef tenderloin - all done very well. There’s an interesting selection of wines for those inclined

Nice ambience for a lunch outing with colleagues and friends. We tried the pizza, chicken, and pasta — all tasted great! There was a bit of an issue during payment when the staff had a disagreement over a wrong order entry. It could’ve been handled more gracefully, as we even saw one of them toss a receipt — quite unprofessional. Other than that, it was an enjoyable experience, and we’d definitely come again, InsyaAllah.

Ambiance is good, music inside the restaurant is also subdued. For the food, the lasagna was great, cheesy, with beefy umami, and is a large serving. The pumpkin soup is on the sweet side + I don't know but I'm getting a somewhat powdery/grainy feel to it. My suggestion is to add croutons or complimentary garlic bread for the lasagna/soup. Otherwise all good.
